Necropolis Entrance 1890

I found the picture above on this website: a site dedicated to the Partleton family tree.

I recently visited St Mary le Strand, the beautiful church opposite King's - a quiet oasis in the middle of the busy road. As you enter the church there is a gold plaque on the right that commemorates a place called Necropolis - the word translates as 'city of the dead'. Apparently the dead from the parish of St Mary le Strand used to be buried there. I have also heard that a train used to leave for Necropolis from Waterloo. It is said that the carriages were segregated into first, second and third class.
