Guidelines

* To add a strand you must first join Strandlines Digital Community. To do so click 'create new account' on the home page.

 To add a strand:

Once you have logged in click on ‘add a strand’ in the column to your right

You will then be given a choice: ‘write a story’, ‘add an image’, ‘add an audio recording’, and ‘add a video’.

Writing a Story

If you click on ‘Write a story’ you will then be taken to a page that will enable you to give your story a title; you will also be able to write your story in the box entitled ‘Your story’. The 'Your story' box can be expanded by clicking on its bottom right hand corner and by dragging this corner down the page.

Once you have written your story you can add ‘tags’ to help others find it. Under 'vocabularies', click on the boxes that best describe your story. If no tag seems suitable, you are welcome to add your own in the ‘Other’ box.

You can ‘Preview’ your story to see how it will look on the site. To store your story on the site simply press ‘Save’.

Adding an image to your story

If you would like to illustrate your story, click on where you would like to place the image in the text. Make sure to click below the line of text (not within the line).  Then click on the camera icon (at the top of the ‘Your Story’ box). You can choose either to upload a new image from your computer (click ‘Upload’) or to select an image already on the Strandlines website (click ‘All Images’). If you have already added an image to the site and wish to add it to your story, you will be able to find it under ‘My Images’. You can position the image on the page by selecting 'right' 'left' or 'centre' (‘centre’ is preferable for most images due to the size of the ‘Your Story’ box). You can also drag the image around the 'Your Story' box once it is uploaded. You can decide upon a size for your story: ‘thumbnail’ is the smallest size’; ‘preview’ is medium-sized; ‘original’ is usually the largest. If ‘original’ is not displayed your image is very large – the site will automatically select a smaller setting.

Adding an audio recording or a video to your story

Simply click on 'add audio and/or video’ (below the ‘Your story’ box; then upload either an audio or video file from your computer.

Other Strands 

Adding an image

Simply click on ‘Add an image’. This will take you to a page entitled ‘Create Image’. On this page click on ‘Choose File’. This will enable you to choose an image from your computer. Double click on the file for the image you wish to upload. Once your file has uploaded, you will be able to add ‘tags’ to help others find your image. Under 'vocabularies', click on the boxes that best describe your image. If no tag seems suitable, you are welcome to add your own (under ‘Other’).

You can ‘Preview’ your story to see how it will look on the site. To save your story to the site simply press ‘Save’.

Adding an audio recording or video

As above (‘Adding an image’), but this time attaching an audio or video file.

*Remember to press ‘Save’ to add store your strand onto the website.
