I doubt it. In any case we did visit the gardens and I was thrilled to see a black electric engine on Hungerford Bridge and to visit Joe's Cafe underneath the station. I was disappointed to see that it was bulldozed away some years ago. Dad helped me to spell out the word 'Yoghurt' on the menu, but he didn't buy one for us.
The journey home was eventful. A wheeltapper at Leamington Spa discovered a broken axle on the train. With the passengers in the damaged carriage evacuated to other seats in the train, there followed a series of shunts to remove it, join the good ones together again, and proceed on to Birmingham. We arrived home after midnight - what a story to tell, and with no phone in the house, let alone mobiles, no way to tell my mother about it before we got in. Tea and cakes in the cafe on the embankment seemed a very long time ago by then!
Lately wearing shoes is not about fashion only but it requires the comfort and the safety of feet, too and this one is looking good enough to meet these demands. Thanks!

But he also lacks a sense of self preservation. At 15 he’s poised at the threshold of a whole bunch of experiences which might sweep him away. After all, how do you tell a boy of this age (definitely still a boy, not yet a man) that if life becomes overwhelming and confusing, there are way to cope with the problems. Hopefully these words you have shared with us– your own and your son’s - will imprint themselves on his memory, and help him to understand better how the world works.
Coincidentally, my daughter is also at Kings. She has the capacity to navigate her way through life, an innate ‘even keel’ which will level her if needs be (forgive the maritime metaphors). There seems to be a greater vulnerability in some boys. Thank you for this posting.
