This recording was made on 16th May 2011 at the Connection by Michael and "Stan" who both interviewed Stuart, AKA "Chelsea". Stuart's footprint together with the words "Jocks on tour" can be seen at stop 4 on the Rags and Riches walking tour. Stuart talks about coming to London, becoming a carer and ending up homeless. He also talks about his volunteering work with the Simon community and the importance of giving something back.

Mark's Diary (part 2 of Homeless Diary)

Last November Mark and I started making a diary. I visited him everyday for a week and asked what had happened since last I saw him. Mark has spent time sleeping rough in the Strand area; he sells the Big Issue. At first he remained anonymous, but then he wanted to let readers know his name. 

The recordings in this posting, made just before Christmas 2010, are rather different. Mark decided to make his own diary, borrowing one of the Strandlines audio recorders.  Read more »

'Charlie' leads Sockmob walking tours around London. I have written about these tours for the Strandlines blog. 'Charlie' used to be homeless, and slept around the Strand, Covent Garden, Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridge. She describes here how she knitted and sold toys as an alternative to begging.

24th November: Everyday this week (Monday-Friday), I will be interviewing one man sells the Big Issue in the Strand area. He leads Sockmob homeless walking tours around London, including one starting from Temple. He has kindly offered to meet with me and to offer either a 'thought for the day' or (like a diary) a description of what has happened, and what he has been thinking about, since last I saw him.  Read more »
